LEANNE SHAW
Psychologist
I've been a registered psychologist for over 20 years. I've worked in both public and private mental health settings, providing residential, group, and individual therapy, and spent many years listening to what hurts and what helps.
I was shaped by my years at Spectrum Personality Disorder Service for Victoria. It drew me toward the complex end of human experience—personality disorder, attachment trauma, complex PTSD and self-harm. I also work with the more everyday but no less painful struggles that wear people down over time: anxiety, low mood, grief, loneliness, and strained relationships.
I start from person-centred and psychodynamic ideas, and draw on ACT, Schema Therapy, mindfulness, and compassion-based practices depending on what seems to land.
I've always been naturally curious about people - how we differ from each other, how we're shaped by our upbringing and culture, and the underlying threads of common humanity that connect us all.
In you, I see a unique and complex person with individual temperament, thoughts, feelings, relational patterns, and unmet needs. I will invite you to speak openly about whatever is on your mind, at your own pace and in your own way. I will listen carefully and, more importantly, encourage you to hear yourself in new ways, bringing more awareness and acceptance to your experiences.
Therapy can be a source of solace and growth, offering both comfort and challenges. I work carefully to create a balance between the two.
